AL - Opportunity for Community: People’s Climate March
September 21-22, 2014 Opportunity for Community People‟s Climate March: No “Plan B” for climate action as there is no “Planet B”, says UN chief.
Nick Peña in collaboration with La Areperia, WARDA and Das WERK provided the opportunity for people to come together to „be the peace‟ and sample Colombian specialities during live painting sessions on the Canal and participate in the people‟s climate march.
Climate change is not a far-off problem. It is happening now and is having very real consequences on people‟s lives. Climate change is disrupting national economies, costing us dearly today and even more tomorrow. But there is a growing recognition that affordable,
scalable solutions are available now that will enable us all to leapfrog to cleaner, more resilient economies. There is a sense that change is in the air. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has invited world leaders, from government, finance, business, and civil society to Climate Summit 2014 this 23 September to galvanize and catalyze climate action.
He has asked these leaders to bring bold announcements and actions to the Summit that will reduce emissions, strengthen climate resilience, and mobilize political will for a meaningful legal agreement in 2015. Climate Summit 2014 provides a unique opportunity for leaders to champion an ambitious vision, anchored in action that will enable a meaningful global agreement in 2015. World leaders don't believe enough of us care about climate change, that's why they're still not yet rising to the challenge of saving our planet. But we have an unprecedented chance to prove we do.
To national, local, and international leaders:
We call on you to keep global temperature rise under the unacceptably dangerous level of 2 degrees C, by phasing out carbon pollution to zero. To achieve this, you must urgently forge realistic global, national and local agreements, to rapidly shift our societies and economies to 100% clean energy by 2050. Do this fairly, with support to the most vulnerable among us. Our world is worth saving and now is our moment to act.
